Questions from brooke
Self-sabotage and denial are favorite tricks of the ego, but I sense you're more aware of these tendencies than most. The light of awareness dissolves them as they only have power in the darkness of unconsciousness.
Since you are a highly sensitive person who has gone through an intense spiritual awakening process, I will share some perspectives that helped me transition into a relatively balanced life. The two words that I feel are relevant to your process are grounding and release. When you're making a choice, ask yourself which option will lead to more grounding. When you feel tight, anxious, or pent up, focus upon release.
When I shared with a mentor in 1997 about my spiritual awakening he said, "Make sure you pay your bills on time and eat three times a day." He knew that awakenings are intense, and it's easy to lose balance.
I didn't always follow his advice. For example, I was once tripping on LSD in an abandoned part of the desert in Utah. My friend and I had wandered in separate directions. I ended up on a plateau where I could see no humans...just nature. People were not my focus at that point. I wanted truth. I had my journal, and I was determined that on this last of 3 acid trips during 5 days of travelling through Arizona and Utah I would come to understand myself, life, my purpose...all the mysteries. I wrote, and I wrote, trying to discern what was real.
I wanted so badly to understand everything, but eventually realized I simply wasn't going to figure out everything because wisdom would need to come more gradually. During the 14 years since this experience, I've learned quite a bit, but most of my understanding of myself and life have come through less intense means. For years I have been practicing "Nonaddiction Spirituality" because I realized all the benefits of chemical alteration could be experienced directly in a more centering fashion.
The point of this story is that the thrills of awakening can become so absorbing that the rest of life becomes out of balance. In response to my video "Bipolar or Spiritual Awakening?" you related strongly to the concept of root chakra (survival/money issues) contributing to stress. I believe that although dealing with the material world can be "boring" in contrast with figuring out ourselves and the universe, it is best to have a solid foundation in life, and that stability contributes to clarity during explorations. I did a two part video called, "How the Spiritual Manifest Money" which may be a good place to start if you haven't seen it yet. We must stop "hating money" to attract it. Being able to have a comfortable relationship with food and shelter with enough left over to give us options calms the root chakra, and allows for a deeper exploration of what I consider to be the more "interesting" chakras.
Since the emergence of the web, we are never at a loss of finding many sources of information, many "answers" regarding spiritual truths and healing. It can be overwhelming, so we have to discern who has a vibe that we admire. Personally, I find Eckhart Tolle to have a pleasant energy in his videos. I don't agree with everything he says, but I certainly trust that he understands how to calm the mind.
One of Tolle's concepts that has helped me tremendously is feeling the pain-body. I used to not know what to do with emotional pain when it arose. I would often suppress or avoid it, or call someone to talk. There is nothing inherently wrong with reaching out for support when pain arises, but I wanted to go deeper so in case nobody was available, I still knew what to do with pain. In short, it's about feeling it when it comes up, without judgment or avoidance. Just feeling it helps it to dissipate. I elaborate on this topic in my video, "How to Feel Your Pain-Body."
One form of releasing old pain or trauma is through connected breathwork. This involves breathing in and out without pausing between breaths. It can be a powerful method of clarifying the nervous system, and I recommend that anyone at least give it a try for half an hour or more. The time I find that works best is at least 40 minutes, but it surely varies from person to person. I've explored this in several videos that can be found by searching for "breathwork" on my YouTube channel's home page, but a good place to start would be, "Spiritual Breathwork/Releasing Emotions."
So again, the key mantras I would suggest focusing upon during this phase of life are grounding and releasing. Trust that the deeper exploration of life will continue to evolve, and it's okay if some things don't make sense right now. They will when understanding is right timed.
Peace,
Chris
